Restoring & Maintaining the Dome for future Generations. |
The Dome Building is one of Salem’s most distinctive and beloved historic structures. With its striking architectural features and rich civic history, the building has long stood as a symbol of community service, innovation, and local identity. Generations of Oregonians have walked its halls, attended programs within its walls, and looked up at its dome with a sense of pride and belonging.
However, after years of limited use and deferred maintenance, the Dome Building is now in urgent need of repair. The once-grand structure shows visible signs of wear: aging infrastructure, roof and water damage, outdated systems, and accessibility limitations have all taken a toll. Without timely intervention, the building’s condition will continue to deteriorate, placing its structural integrity — and future use — at serious risk. Preserving the Dome Building is not just about saving a piece of architecture; it’s about restoring a vital community asset. With appropriate maintenance and thoughtful restoration, the building can once again serve as a welcoming and functional space for public programs, youth development, and nonprofit collaboration. The need is real, but so is the opportunity — and with the help of partners and supporters, the Dome Building can be brought back to life as a beacon of service, equity, and community pride. |
