The Dome Building is a pivotal investment opportunity, serving as both a cultural icon and an economic engine for Marion County. Despite its appeal, the expansive deferred maintenance and historical obligations deter private buyers, shrinking appraised values and prolonging listing periods. Particularly challenging is the need for major system restorations before any revenue generation can occur. For organizations without a preservation focus or access to public funds, the high costs and potential risks are too overwhelming compared to newer properties. If we wait to take action, we risk exacerbating these issues, resulting in further depreciation of the building's value, increased restoration costs, and a potential loss of cultural heritage. However, The Dome Building Community Coalition (“DBCC”) can convert these perceived obstacles into lasting community benefits, transforming liabilities into valuable public assets through strategic public investment.
